Poompuhar Shipping Corporation Limited is a state public sector undertaking fully owned by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu

This Corporation was established in 1974 with the exclusive responsibility of shipment of coal along the east coast of India to meet the requirements of the thermal power stations of Tamil Nadu Generation & Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO). A fleet of three shallow draft vessels of 45,000 DWT, viz., M.V. Tamil Anna, M.V. Tamil Periyar & M.V. Tamil Kamaraj and chartered vessels from other ship-owners are utilized for the above purpose. Besides, PSC is operating ferries from the main land of Kanniyakumari to Vivekananda Rock Memorial and Ayyan Thiruvalluvar Statue.
